Why do I need a 20 meters broad street? There's nothing to see and the graphics ain't too great (some Anti-aliasing would be nice).Īpotos turned out to be some mountain village, with a few houses here and there. No score or anything that actually existed since the very first game.Īnd the level design is pretty lame. I got every S-Rank after the second or third try. The Wii version is so damn easy, it hurts. It's your opinion, but I couldn't disagree more. It's sad that Sonic Unleashed is only enjoyable during the moments when you're hardly in control of it." GameSpot summarized it best (in relation to the 360/PS3 version): "The camera adjusts for cinematic impact while you tear through loops and grind rails as Sonic, and though you're doing little more than pushing right on the analog stick during these sections, it is entertaining to watch Sonic swoop by. Although the 360/PS3 versions have a perma-boost button, that's merely a bandage over positively poor level design. The popular opinion among the YouTube-type community couldn't be more wrong about its quality.

If you're not certain about a purchase, definitely do rent it. Unfortunately, the werehog stages are, well, the werehog stages - nonetheless, the Sonic entries are more than worth playing. There are many situations where the reviews can lie - "Sonic Heroes" startlingly received positive reviews, after all - but in this case, they are quite correct. If you're interested in a purer Sonic experience, the regular stages in "Sonic Unleashed" on the Wii have vastly superior camera work (actually allowing you to see the stage - remarkable, really) and excellent design. Speed isn't everything, not even for Sonic the Hedgehog, and this universal praising of trash is why only the "hardcore" Sonic community appreciates the mediocre games they're being fed. Alas, these sort of opinions are likely why "Sonic Heroes" sold as well as it did, despite being one of the most atrocious games in the series. It's astounding that anyone can praise the former and bash the latter, considering that the 360/PS3 editions suffers from a terrible camera (locked in far too close to Sonic), claustrophobic level design, and an unfortunate prioritization of beauty over entertainment.

Considering the multitude of problems with the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of "Sonic Unleashed," I would instead strongly recommend the Nintendo Wii version.
